We are in Love!

How to describe yesterday. The weather relatively temperate and being January you cannot see sky for clouds. One’s head fizzes with Morrissey songs, Alka-Seltzer and that popular song sung by The Cure “Friday I am in Love”. The car I am in seldom has music playing, this I long suspect, due to an ardent driver’s insistence on focus and concentration.

Fair enough I hear echoed amongst you, it is match day!

As a regular passenger however, I fear something altogether different is at hand. This enduring radio silence, I suspect, owes more to the driver being ill at ease in the driver’s seat. He, for this most certainly is a he, frenziedly navigates the car whilst wrestling with a steering wheel. Imagine someone who acts like they drive at 100mph until a quick glance at the speedometer reveals a modest and miserly speed of 24mph?

Finding a new route each week, we eventually arrive at Kingsfield, to find this week’s opposition, Laurel Park Tornadoes, await us with patience decorum. All good as far as we tentatively approach the Clubhouse with pre-match bonhomie until…

The combination lock will simply not open? Try it, try it again – keep on trying. Fail, fail again. Call Stef, panic and have him panic whilst someone else tries it. Try other combination of numbers, try anything. Try calling a mate who is a copper to see if his door hammer is available. It’s not and he is trying to put armbands on his daughter.

Well sod your brand of misery Morrissey, it’s got nothing on this! Sod The Cure song too, Football by enlarge happens on Saturday & Sunday’s and if there is a love then surely it starts and ends with a referee’s whistle! Fridays?

Not for the first time this season, I rush home for the bolt cutters.

Respect line administered opposition in place we begin. What follows is a remarkable demonstration of football. Our Colts team, used to various pre-match hiccups and false starts, were rampant. The opposition on the other and are likely to have been suffering early signs of depression after having to wait for so long. Never mind.

Jacob scored two beauties, Sam Musgrave takes a battling brace, Daniel Madden 1 and Bertie the other. 6 nil people.

Notables? Sam Musgraves midfield dynamism and passion to defend despite being comfortably ahead. Sam Roberts to adapt to centre back with ease and composure. Man marking excellent! Kaya’s 1st half tackle from hell. Daniel Maddens pass selection. Seb maturing well and becoming a real team player. Louis excellent at LB, Jacob outstanding! Finally, Bertie – irrepressible from start to finish.

MOTM: Sam Musgrave

Finally I get onto thinking about The Fall and Mark E Smith’s departure. Do you remember the football song “Theme from Sparta”? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaxB5qRSq1I or perhaps you remember the song Victoria by the same band? Either way RIP Mark, a fellow Manchester City supporter who supported City for much as the same reason I supported them. To be contrary and awkward to our respective father/step fathers. Enjoy!
