Our Diamonds team celebrated two years of 'Lost Generation' football, as runners up in Middlesex FA's second Lost Gen Winter 5s Tournament and improving on last year's quarter final placing.
We again sent two teams for a fun day of football for women over 30 with other West London teams at Trailfinders facility in Pitshanger.
Yet again the ladies proved how valuable our pilot programme in conjunction with Middlesex FA has been over the last two years, providing opportunities for the 'Lost Generation' of older women to train and play occasional competitive matches that they would not have had the chance to play when younger. We focus on enjoyment and skills development and it's great to see their confidence increase with every training session. The numbers wanting to take up the competitive side of football are growing and competitions aimed at older women are few and far between so this is a great opportunity.
Our Blues and Reds played with grit and strength throughout, and the Blues showed a steely determination to win their quarter final match on penalties. A super goal at the right moment in the semi took them through to the final and eventual 2nd place in the tournament!
In the group stages the Diamonds' Reds team scored 0-0, 0-0 but went out after a 0-3 loss.
The Blues won their quarter final 2-0 on penalties, won their semi final 1-0 but eventually lost 0-2 to Twickenham Swans.
