David vs Goliath

The Colts travelled to FC Bracknell in the cup with both hope and some quiet expectation, buoyed by a brilliant start to the season that has seen 28 goals plundered in four Division Three matches.

We concluded that they would do well to match our forward line and that we would not roll over anywhere else on the pitch regardless of the oppositions's lofty perch at the summit of the East Berks league structure.

We weren't disappointed. One nil up with a superb goal on the break scored by the irrepressible Jacob. We then went two one down and felt that Bracknell might stretch away. sSilly us. The character of this team is immense though and we fought back to a 3-2 lead with another from Jacob and one from distance through John Boy Blanco. We then had a chance to bury the game and advance in the most beautiful underdog fashion. The ball was whipped in to the excellent Adam Ahmed a yard out but he hadn't spotted the defender rushing in from nowhere to steal it away for a corner. Despite an excellent late flurry we ended up going out of the cup with a 5-3 defeat.

This was disappointing in result only. The performance was what we expected and hoped. We reminded the boys afterwards that our opposition had already won 5-1 and 4-0 against top flight league opponents this season and we matched them in every department.

We most certainly go again next week and I am sure the players, managers, coaches and parents can't wait. It is a real joy to watch this table topping side at the moment and we have two excellent additions just waiting for international clearance. Happy days.
