The U14 Colts played away at Laurel Park, one of our two serious title challengers, yesterday. We were run ragged early with their left winger putting in an excellent shift.
We were quickly two down and it felt like the game was going to pass us by particularly as our excellent front two of Jacob and Adam were getting well marshalled by their impressive centre backs. They had chances to extend the lead and were getting far too much space but Francis made a couple of important forays off his line to keep the deficit manageable. And there were some valiant last ditch tackles going in from the back line. We were under the cosh.
Cue a defensive reshuffle moving MOTM Kaya to right back and we started to take control.
In fact, the game was very similar to the home game against them which we drew 3-3 after being 3-1 down.
This time we were 4-2 down with 5 minutes to go and came back to 4-4. We could even have nicked it right at the death.
In a very tight and well balanced league it is really good to see the Colts challenging at the right end of the table with just the one defeat all season. We now need to turn draws into wins if we are to maintain a serious challenge for the title.
