Reading Clash

When Andy Warhol said "in the future everyone will be famous for 15 minutes" he probably wasn't thinking about the boy Weglarz in a field in Reading. But in turning a half time 2-2 into 7-2 a quarter of an hour later Jacob couldn't have made a bigger impression on the watching locals if he had jumped out of the Marilyn Monroe picture and done a quick can can whilst swigging red label Thunderbird from a bottle bottle.

Even for those of us used to watching Jacob put teams to the sword week in week out, this was pretty special. The first half had seen four goals shared in an engaging encounter. Colts one up and pegged back by a dubious penalty. Two One up and pegged back once more. This Reading side wasn't going to lie down, or so we thought.

Jacob found himself benched at the end of the first half in a decision akin to substituting Gary Kasparov for Benny Hill in boxing gloves. No offence to Ed who bears zero resemblance to the erstwhile vocally challenged comic.

The Gaffer must have his reasons for his latest decision but trying to work out the machinations of the Kinchin mind is an unforgivingly slow and oft fruitless process. Those who have ever scaled Kilmanjaro in flip flops will understand.

Anyway, on bringing Jacob back into the fray for the second half one could sense that there might be a "caged animal" reaction and so it proved. Brilliant, just brilliant. The goals were all very well taken and normally involved brushing past defenders in a style reminiscent of Jonah Lomu swatting the pesky Underwoods at the 1995 World Cup.

Adam scored his first hat trick for the Colts and John Boy Blanco scored the other in a 10-4 win. The margin of victory was all the more impressive given that the Colts travelled to the 9 am fixture in Reading with just twelve players after a spate of late withdrawals.

So, four games, top of the league and twenty eight goals to the good. Each game has seen us eventually outplay opponents but, as importantly, has seen the Colts out battle all comers. The spirit is truly excellent and long may it continue.

Next week represents our biggest test of the season as we travel to FC Bracknell from the top flight, two leagues above the Colts, in a Cup Tie that we aim to make a banana skin, a great leveller and any other cup based cliches all rolled into one.
