first game highlights positives and areas for improvement

The new look U13 Colts played their first match together having trained as a squad just once during the off season. The lack of preparation time showed and Rocks Lane put us to the sword 2-6 thanks mainly to their very skilful number 9.

We agreed at the start of the match that we would play 10-a-side as Rocks Lane were short on numbers. The increased pitch size meant plenty of space which Rocks Lane exploited better than us.

By half time we were 0-3 down following a couple of well taken Rocks Lane goals and an unfortunate penalty. We rallied In the second half with Piers Cramp anticipating well for a tap in and then following it with a scorcher a few minutes later. Surely an early candidate for goal of the season!

However, lack of fitness and communication took it's toll towards the end with Rocks Lane adding another 3 to their tally. In all honesty, it could have been more had it not been for the heroics of Edward Thomson in goal making a succession of tremendous saves. There were other positives too with the new team members (Jack, Rio, Mason, Lewis, Liam) all doing well.

We will lick our wounds, work on communication, defending and set pieces on the training ground and be better prepared for the next match against Sheen Lions.
