League leaders beat depleted Colts

Disappointingly, the Colts again had to play with 10 men - this time against the 11 players of league leaders, Bees United. With no permanent goalkeeper, Harvey Gladwin volunteered to take the first stint between the sticks and was kept busy having to pick the ball out of the back of the net 4 times.

Our regular back four did well to keep the score relatively low in the first half. The midfield duo of Piers Cramp and Louis Norman battled as hard as ever in front of our defence to win back possession. James Wood looked to move the ball smoothly whenever possible and picked out some good passes. This was the first competitive match for Andrei Filipas who joined the club last week and completed the midfield line up. Liam was our sole striker and did well to maintain his motivation whilst seeing very little of the ball.

The second half saw Edward Thomson take over goalkeeping responsibilities which meant a shuffle at the back. Tiredness started to take its toll towards the end of the game with the Bees seizing opportunities to run on our goal. Edward made a succession of saves in one-on-one situations but the Bees netted a total of 8 in the second half making the final score 12-0

Despite the abject score line, there are some positives to take out of the game. Our defence at corners is improving and there is also a growing rapport between the regular back four. There were also far fewer individual mistakes this week.

With new players joining over the next couple of weeks, this will hopefully be the last time we field a depleted team. A regular goalkeeper is the most essential requirement. I'm hopeful to poach one soon.

Heads up lads! This was the toughest match of the season - away to the league leaders with an uneven number of players. Things will improve I promise.
