Bang

It’s easy to be vituperative when events are not quite going to plan. A measured response not always available when a cool head is required! 1st day back at the office and a tidal wave of emotion, resting dormant all summer, simply screamed to get out.

I have never quite got to grips with certain aspects of behaviour on the terraces. The screaming; tears, and random outpourings of frustration and occasional abuse leave one bewildered. Have these people never actually played the game? Recently my opinion has modified!

Standing in these terraces sleeps a buried energy that is often and best kept in check by whoever wears the pants at home. Perhaps malnourished and downtrodden"terraces” represent a speaker’s corner of sorts where Men folk vie for air time to see who can say the most pointless thing possible?

Any hitherto notion of cultural enhancement essentially gives way to the humiliating need to unshackle oneself from human refinement in
favour of something essentially more organic and authentic. Manure perhaps?

Well I was certainly kept in check today when the referee, seeing my attempts to clear the goal area free from surface water, announced “We are not playing on this – we shall play over yonder”! Right down with the nets apologise to opposition after I was unable to shake their hand due to the accumulated filth dripping from my right arm after a shin pad did a half decent job as a paddle.

Next ball check - crikey!?

“Match ball adequate”, phew! – “The spare”? Turned out the spare was “inadequate” after this diligent referee whipped out a Football pressure gage to announce that the correct pressure gage should be between 0.7 & 0.8 BAR. Heavens!

Well the game against Esher Wizard Blues got underway and the game ensued. Some 5 minutes or so into a an exceptionally competitive game, Marble Hill Park’s “Park Ranger” took it upon herself to walk over and begin explaining who was playing on the other three pitches and asked whether the U14’s would be satisfied with playing on the same surface. Pardon? YES YES – Sheesh!

So ramped & amped up I managed the game with all the integrity of a British politician in the House of Commons. And what a game this was folks! Gutsy, disorganised and exceptionally scrappy at times. The newly named Knights gallantly soldiered on despite missing numerous attempts on goal.

Esher were competitive and well-disciplined at the back whilst posing a genuine threat on the counter. A wonderful goal line clearance from Francis before we turned the screw and deservedly took a sweaty goal that initially came from Arvin however apparently hitting Leo in the ear before going in. Owen Reed took a nice individual goal to get the 2nd. Phew!

"Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" is the second single by American singer-actress Cher from her second album, The Sonny Side of Chér. Written by her then-husband Sonny Bono however a better version was sung by Nancy Sinatra back in 1966.

Check out this modern version however by David Guetta - Shot Me Down ft. Skylar Grey
