When the going get's tough

“It is not because things are difficult that we don’t dare; it is because we do not dare that things are difficult”.

So said Lucius Annaeus Seneca (c. 4 BC – AD 65). “Seneca” a stoic Roman philosopher, known as much for his calm ending as he was for his rhetorical philosophy.

The school of Stoicism is something the Knights support have had to adjust to. Chances we create, however a team who struggle to find the back of the net. So a real life drama often ensues week after week.

Abundant are the parallels made, without humour, between our very own Knights Manager and Manchester City’s head team coach Pep Guardiola. Doubtless there will be many more to come, yet rest assured even I would never be so brazen as to blame a Mitre match ball as Pep was found doing in a mawkish post-match report in the Carabao Cup.

Wolverhampton Wanderers probably played out of their skin and City resumed back to their ominous mantle as “everyone’s favourite second club”.

Well this leads me nicely onto today’s home match to a Bedfont Eagles side ripe with confidence after a strong start to their 2017/2018 campaign.

Earlier in the week, erroneously perhaps, I found myself eulogising how this physical encounter would play out. So much so and to such an extent that half of the squad were scratching around searching for something (anything) else to do other than play football this morning. I Kid!

Witnessing two spirited teams do all they can to gain advantage and achieve three points was always going to be emotional. So it played out!

Bertie lofting the ball over the keeper to take a delightful goal only for Bedfont to work an opening and level the score. 2nd half and against the run of play, Ben Roohan latched onto a long pass to create and score a delightful 2nd before Bedfont bullied there way back in with a goal from a corner.

Finished 2 all.

The Knights go into November still unbeaten in this new and higher division. Plenty of jousting ahead of us so let's take off and polish our bruised armour ready to go again against Mayford.
